Introduction
The Razer Pro Type Ultra keyboard is a big accessory with many customizable features. If you’re not a professional gamer, it might take some time to get used to, as it shares a lot of features with the best wireless gaming keyboards. However, with its numerous useful features, the Pro Type Ultra might become your favorite keyboard, even if you’re using it for work rather than gaming.
It offers wired, wireless, and Bluetooth connectivity on a standard Windows PC. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well with Apple computers, but we managed to connect it to our iMac using wireless and wired options, though Bluetooth didn’t work.
The Pro Type Ultra keyboard is well-built, featuring the quiet and pleasant Yellow mechanical switch for the keys. With a 3.5-millimeter travel distance and a 1.2-millimeter actuation point, it’s one of the softest keyboards we’ve tested. If you need a comfortable keyboard for extended typing, the Pro Type Ultra is one of the most user-friendly options available.
You can download the Razer Synapse 3 software from Razer.com. This software allows you to create and upload user profiles to the cloud, which is handy when sharing the keyboard with others while maintaining the freedom to customize key bindings. Additionally, the Synapse software makes it easy to create and bind macros, pair Razer devices, and use the Hypershift function for a secondary set of commands on top of your standard key assignments, expanding the Pro Type Ultra’s input capabilities.
Price And Availability Razer Pro Type Ultra
How much does it cost? The Razer Pro Type Ultra is priced at $159, around £159, or AU$279.
When is it out? It’s already available for purchase on Razer.com and at most major retailers.
Where can you get it? You can find it in the US, UK, and Australia.
Comparing the Razer Pro Type Ultra to other wireless keyboards, it may seem a bit pricey. To decide if it’s the right choice for you, consider your specific needs. If you’re only looking for a basic RGB keyboard, there are other options with backlighting available at a lower cost.
However, if you value extensive macro creation and advanced key remapping features, and RGB backlighting isn’t a priority, the Razer Pro Type Ultra starts to offer better value. Currently, it’s nearly a hundred dollars cheaper than some high-end gaming keyboards like the Logitech G915. Additionally, you may find Razer promo codes that can help you save on your purchase.

Design Razer Pro Type Ultra
The Razer Pro Type Ultra keyboard is a strong and reliable full-size keyboard. It uses Razer’s special Yellow mechanical switch under each key, which can handle up to 80 million clicks. To make typing quieter, each key has sound-dampening foam. The keycaps have a soft-touch coating, making the typing experience even more pleasant.
Under the keyboard, there are kickstands on the left and right sides. You can change the keyboard angle from flat to 6 or 9 degrees. The padded leatherette wrist rest adds extra comfort.
Most of the keyboard casing is made of tough plastic, while the surface under the keys is metal, contributing to the keyboard’s weight of 1038 grams (including the cable). The backlit LEDs not only look nice but also help when typing in low light. There’s enough space between the keyboard frame and the keys, making it easy to clean and maintain.
Accessibility Razer Pro Type Ultra
The keyboard’s tilt is a concern with the Pro Type Ultra. Because of the taller keys, thanks to Razer’s use of the large “Yellow” mechanical switches, you might need to raise your wrists to type comfortably.
The wrist pad provides support and helps address this issue. However, at the steepest angle of 9 degrees, typing can feel awkward. If you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or a similar condition, use caution with higher angles. It’s worth mentioning that in our tests, the flat angle with the wrist rest was quite comfortable.
On a positive note, the backlit LEDs are helpful in low-light conditions and for users with visual impairments. The characters or commands on each key are translucent, allowing the letters and numbers to be lit from below, making them highly visible due to the LEDs.
Using the Synapse 3 software, you can adjust the backlight intensity to your liking, making it brighter or softer based on your preference.
Performance Razer Pro Type Ultra
The Razer Pro Type Ultra is a great choice for people who want to make the most of their keyboard, especially gamers or programmers. If you’re a gamer, you might miss having colorful RGB lighting on the Pro Type Ultra. However, for those who don’t need flashy lights, this keyboard has a lot to offer.
The 2.4GHz wireless connection is reliable and allows you to connect the keyboard to compatible Razer computer mice. While Bluetooth generally works well, we have noticed that it’s not always easily discoverable by other computers. The wired option uses a USB-C to USB-A cable, ensuring a quick and reliable connection every time.
Battery life on the Pro Type Ultra is impressive, depending on whether you use the backlit LEDs. Razer claims the keyboard can last up to 214 hours over Bluetooth and 207 hours over 2.4 GHz wireless with the LEDs turned off. However, if you max out the brightness of the LEDs, the battery life decreases to approximately 13 hours over Bluetooth or wireless. Overall, it’s solid performance for this type of keyboard.
Conclusion
The Synapse does a great job with this feature. You can choose either 2.4 GHz wireless or Bluetooth easily. The soft white backlight on the Pro Type Ultra is a good option if you don’t prefer RGB backlighting, which can be difficult to see in certain situations.
If you’re a fan of RGB lighting, the Pro Type Ultra doesn’t have that feature. The switches raise the keys, which might cause strain on your wrists. Additionally, the Razer Pro Type Ultra is large and weighty.
The Razer Pro Type Ultra impresses with its seamless connectivity options and ergonomic design. However, potential users should consider its substantial size and the absence of RGB lighting, making it a suitable choice based on individual preferences and needs.
